In March 2020, Melbourne was learning about a possible lockdown due to the spread of the Corona Virus. But there was more than a pandemic in our midst, there was a major panic over toilet paper! If we were locked down in our homes, how would we wipe our butts? Would we have enough toilet paper to do that? How would we survive? There was panic buying not only wine and chocolate but of toilet paper! Seriously, what were we all thinking?
Amongst the panic buying, there was panic about our livelihoods, our businesses, our jobs. And just like that, when we were told to stay home, businesses everywhere struggled to make sense of how to keep their head above water.
Being an essential service, I started to think outside the square. How can I assist people with their personal hygiene? What if we actually did run out of toilet paper? What then? Well, the Europeans have had the answer for many years. The Bidet!
A couple of phone calls here and there and I became the preferred installer of Bidets in Melbourne and Regional Victoria. And that is exactly how I became known as The Bidet Man!
But this story about me and bidets is more than just a means to save my backside in a pandemic that could have easily hurt my small business financially. I decided that I would use the downtime to reflect on my life and consider where it has gone and where it will go. Having had a mother with dementia living in a nursing home, I wanted to be able to assist people to stay in their own homes longer. And that is how I decided to become registered with the National Disability Scheme of Australia under the category of Home Modifications.
